About Our University

History of FUNATO

The Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO) was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2025 as part of its commitment to expanding access to quality higher education and strengthening the nation’s capacity in agriculture, science, and technology.

Located in Oke-Ogun, Oyo State, FUNATO was conceived to serve as a center of excellence where agriculture meets technology, promoting innovation, research, and sustainable development in Nigeria’s agri-tech sector.

Following its official approval, the University’s Governing Council and principal officers were inaugurated, and Professor Olaniyi Jacob Babayemi was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor. These milestones marked the beginning of the institution’s journey toward academic and infrastructural development.

FUNATO is set to commence full academic activities in November 2025, welcoming its first cohort of students into various programs designed to blend agricultural sciences, engineering, and modern technology.

As one of Nigeria’s newest federal universities, FUNATO stands as a beacon of hope for the Oke-Ogun region and the nation at large, committed to producing skilled graduates, advancing research, and contributing meaningfully to national food security and technological advancement.
