Welcome Address

On behalf of the Board, I warmly welcome you to the College of Engineering and Technology (COLET) of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO), a pioneering College of the institution that is gateway to the exciting world of engineering. It is a center for innovation, problem-solving and shaping the future through technology.

COLET presently offers seven (7) main courses viz: Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering; Biomedical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Food Science and Technology; Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, as approved by the National University Commission (NUC). Efforts are on-going to secure approval for more engineering courses as the University grows. It offers you a chance to design, build, and transform into a better world!

Ours is a unique College that strives to engender a learning culture preparing the students to become active players in the technological developments of the society. We are counting on our products to lift their world up by tackling global engineering challenges. We have dedicated and qualified faculty members with sound education, expertise, and experience, who are well versed both in the academic and industrial sectors. Our faculty are active members in various professional societies, such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Association for Consulting Engineers in Nigeria (ACEN), among others. Our matured Academic Advisors provide good support systems through the available Libraries and Learning Centers of the University.

The conducive learning environment available in a peaceful community where the university is situated is a plus for training young minds in hands-on projects, design challenges, practical skills and meaningful career development using modern laboratories and workshops, study spaces and classrooms, for tackling global engineering challenges. The College has technology-enabled classrooms, laboratories and students' facilities.

COLET programmes are structured for 4- or 5-academic-year tiers depending on students' background and preferences. The 4-year tier is mainly designed for holders of the GCE A-Level certificate or equivalent, National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and Bachelor's degree in allied programmes (Direct Entry), whereas the 5-year tier is fashioned for students who satisfy the UTME requirements. Our curricula are designed for students to have the unique opportunity to develop competencies in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, clean and renewable energy, green building materials, Geographic Information Systems, Advanced material science, modular and smart prefabrication and construction, 3D/4D Printing, Internet of Things, membrane technology, smart grids, sustainable design, 5G/6G, and other disruptive technologies.

Profile

Engr. Prof. Samson Olakunle Ojoawo, FNSE, FNIEE, FNICE is the Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho where he leads through sound academic and administrative experiences for teaching, research and community services. He completed his B.Tech degree programme in Civil Engineering at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso in 1998 as the Best Graduating Student in the Department. He proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he bagged both his M.Sc and Ph.D degrees (Civil Engineering) in the years 2003 and 2010 respectively. In 2014, he was a 12-month Post-Doctoral Fellow at Department of Civil Engineering of the prestigious NMAM Institute of Technology Nitte, of the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, Karnataka State, India.

He commenced his academic career when he was appointed at the Department of Civil Engineering, LAUTECH as a Graduate Assistant on December 28, 1998 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Civil Engineering effective from October 1, 2016. He has served as Ag. Head of Civil Engineering Department (2006-2008), Deputy Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology (elected unopposed for 2 consecutive sessions from 2017-2019), and Acting Dean of the same Faculty in LAUTECH (2019). He was elected and served as a Senate Representative on Appointments and Promotion Committee (A&PC) of the University (2021-2023), and also the elected Senate Representative on the Joint Selection Committee on the Appointment of the University Librarian (2024).

Since the year 2021 he has been serving as the Chairman, LAUTECH Projects Monitoring and Implementation Committee, and his team has successfully supervised many delivered Projects at both the Ogbomoso and Iseyin Campuses of the University. His research activities center on Water Resources and Environmental Engineering. He has studied the pollution levels and remediation measures to surface and groundwater resources, and wastewater systems extensively in Nigeria and abroad, among other related ones.

As of last count, Professor Ojoawo has authored (and co-authored) nearly a hundred (100) publications in form of articles in learned journals, conference proceedings, monographs, chapters in books and books. He has successfully supervised over 250 Bachelor's degree and Postgraduate Diploma final year projects, and completed 16 Masters and Ph.D research theses supervision, while 4 others are on-going, all in Civil Engineering. On July 4, 2024 Prof. Ojoawo successfully delivered the 58th Inaugural Lecture of LAUTECH titled "Water, water, everywhere, but not a drop to drink: Sustainable Environmental Engineering Techniques as panacea".

As touching his contributions to National and International growth, he was Team Leader for the U.S.A's Global Funds NGO Committee for Joint Programme on Malaria Commodity Storage Facilities Assessment and led the Team to visit Abuja and some States of Nigeria (2010). He was an INEC LGA Collation Officer for 2011 General Election. He served as Supervisor of JAMB for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, (2009–2013). He has equally served and still serving as an External Examiner and a Promotion Assessor in many Universities and other higher institutions.

He is a reviewer of many International Journals of Engineering, and currently the Editor-in-Chief for the LAUTECH Journal of Civil and Environmental Studies (LAUJOCES). Internationally, he has presented academic papers at nearly 30 International Conferences, Seminars and Workshops in continents like Africa, Asia and America.

He became a Registered Engineer with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in 2004, and also a Registered Consultant with COREN in 2013. As an accomplished Registered Civil Engineering Consultant with COREN, he has been involved in the engineering design, construction/supervision and monitoring of over a hundred (100) public and private functional Structures within and outside Nigeria.

On Community Services, he is an ordained Deacon of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, a member of the Rotary Club International, and a Board of Trustees Member of Salako Maven Foundation. Professor Ojoawo has won many awards both academic and professional. He had his Post-Doctoral Fellowship through Indian's Technical Education Quality Improvement, TEQIP-II Scholarship Award in 2014; Best Paper Award, International Journal of Civil Engineering, International Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology, IASET Global Research Forum, U.S.A, and he won TETFUND-Institutional Based Research (IBR) Grants of Federal Government of Nigeria in years 2015 and 2024.

Engr. Professor Samson Olakunle Ojoawo's hobbies include Public Oratory, traveling, and listening to music. He is happily married to his amiable wife Dr. Mrs. Olubunmi Titilayo Ojoawo, RAS also a university academic and an ordained Deaconess of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and the union is blessed with lovely children.
