College of Livestock Development and Environmental SciencesI welcome you to the College of Livestock Development and Environmental Sciences (COLDES). A College designed to promote academic excellence; research and innovation. At present, the College comprises of four Departments:
i. Animal Science
ii. Fisheries and Aquaculture
iii. Forest Resources and Wildlife Management
iv. Environmental Management and Toxicology
Philosophy: All these programmes are developed to produce graduates that are adequately equipped to be innovative and become entrepreneurs in founding solutions to the challenges facing any of their chosen discipline. Our graduates are expected to meaningfully contribute to the local and global consensual efforts towards sustainable development goals. These training programmes are mounted through classroom instruction, laboratory practicals, field demonstrations and workshop practices.
Deriving from the foregoing philosophy and the major objectives of the University, the aims of the College, among others, are to:
1. Assist in the attainment of self-sufficiency in the production of basic food, zero hunger;
2. Contribute to the transformation and diversification of the national economy;
3. Enhance the production and processing of export produce;
4. Promote friendly environment through effective management of waste to ensure life in water and on land are protected;
5. Evolve effective ways of protecting agricultural land resources from ecological degradation such as erosion, pollution.
Professor Lawrence Tokunbo Egbeyale obtained Bachelor Degree in Animal Production and Health (First Class Division, 2004), Master of Agriculture and Doctor of Philosophy in Non-ruminant Production and Hatchery Technology in the year 2007 and 2010, respectively from University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
He is a Professor of Non-Ruminant Production. He has numbers of distinctions, honours and awards. Such achievements are, Federal Government Scholarship (2003), Best graduating student in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (the College comprises of five Departments) in 2004, Ogun State Printing award for the best graduating student in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (2004), University of Agriculture Graduate Fellowship for Postgraduate studies (2006-2007). He has certificates in SMEDAN Tertiary Institution Entrepreneurship Development Program (2021), GIZ MSME training of Trainers, Facilitators and Coaches (ToTFC) in 2023.
His research areas focus on management of hatching eggs and the use of medicinal plants as a replacement for synthetic antibiotics and anticoccidial drugs in the field of poultry production. He had supervised 98 undergraduates, 3 postgraduate diploma projects, 41 M.Agric and 10 PhD students. He has 71 journal articles in learned Journals to his credit.
